James Johnson traded for…

The James Johnson era is over in Chicago. According to the ESPN.com news service, the Bulls have traded him to the Toronto Raptors for the Miami Heat’s first round draft pick, which the Raptors obtained in the sign-and-trade deal that sent Chris Bosh to Miami. It’s not exactly shocking that management would ship Johnson for […]

James Johnson: Headin’ to the D-League

According to Scott Schroeder of NBA FanHouse: “James Johnson, selected by the Chicago Bulls with the 16th overall pick in last year’s NBA Draft, is expected to be assigned to the NBA D-League’s Iowa Energy on Thursday, according to a source close to the situation. Johnson, a 6-foot-9 forward out of Wake Forest, has played […]

The Bulls like their options

From ESPNChicago.com: “The Chicago Bulls exercised the fourth-year option on point guard Derrick Rose, and the third-year options on Taj Gibson and James Johnson on Monday. That means all three players will be under contract with the Bulls for the 2011-12 season.” Well, there really wasn’t much suspense about Rose and Gibson. Rose might end […]

James Johnson: Talkin’ tough

Since I’ve posted lots of injury news for various Bulls players this season — Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, Luol Deng, rookie Taj Gibson, etc. — it seems only fair to give the other rookie his due. To wit: James Johnson started and logged 25 minutes in last night’s game against the Pistons despite a partially torn plantar fascia […]

Preseason Game Two: Bulls vs. Jazz

Well, that was fun. Buzzer-beating wins like Chicago’s 102-101 victory over Utah always get fans and players psyched up…even if nobody will remember them come playoff time. Like I said before, preseason games have relatively little to do with regular season (or postseason) success. Although maybe that’s less true for some of the Bulls than […]

Bulls finish Summer League play

The Bulls’ Summer League schedule ended with a 93-85 victoryover the Minnesota Timberwolves. That gave them three straight wins and a 3-2 record overall. Rookie James Johnson led the team with 18 points and 7 rebounds. In five summer games, Johnson compiled some nice all-around averages: 16.6 PPG, 7.0 RPG and 3.6 APG. His 40 percent shooting was a little low […]

A little Summer League perspective

I love the NBA Summer League. It provides the perfect opportunity for rookies (and a handful of non-rookies) to pad their stats so the media and fans can get way too excited about contests that are slightly less meaningful than preseason games. Golden State’s Anthony Randolph “ravaged” the Bulls for 42 points while Chicago rookies James Johnson (21 points) […]

Fresh ink: Johnson and Gibson

Jim O’Donnell of the Chicago Sun-Times: “Chicago, meet your James Johnson. His pedigree is more sociologically exotic than street. He appears more mobile than menacing. It is his feet of fury rather than his fists that interest the Rose-rage Bulls and their re-energized fandom now. Johnson — the team’s top draft pick — met the […]
