What you see is (probably) what you’re going to get

Derrick Rose, John Salmons, Kirk Hirich, Jannero Pargo and (rarely) Lindsey Hunter in the backcourt. Luol Deng (assuming he’s healthy), Tyrus Thomas, James Johnson and Taj Gibson at the forward positions. Joakim Noah and Brad Miller playing center. Aaron Gray and Jerome James watching silently from the end of the bench.

Barring the inexplicable and unforseen, those are your 2009-10 Chicago Bulls.

According to Bulls GM Gar Forman: “The roster (is set) as of now. We talk to a lot of teams to see if we can make ourselves better. Outside of a major type trade, I really don’t see us doing anything. We would anticipate we will carry 13 players.?We have a qualifying offer out to Aaron Gray and all indications are that he will sign it and return.? I like our roster. We like our young core and where we’re at. We feel pretty good going into the season.”

In other words, don’t expect Carlos Boozer or David Lee to come walking through that door anytime soon. Bulls management has assembled what it feels is a solid core group of players and manipulated the salary situation so that the team will be $12 million or more under the cap going into next summer. They feel their job is done…for now.

The players just have to play. Rose has to improve — and there’s every indication that he has improved and will continue to do so. Deng must not only be healthy, but he’ll also need to return to his 2006-07 “almost an All-Star” form. Thomas has to play like it’s a contract year (and it is). Salmons needs to prove he can play shooting guard full-time (and stay on fire from downtown). Noah and Miller has to rebound and bang bodies (and an occasional inside score wouldn’t hurt).  Hinrich and Pargo must provide scoring and steady play off the bench. The rookies need to contribute when called upon. Gray and James have to work on waving towels and handing out Gatorade.

On paper, these Bulls look like a solid 40-win team, unless one or more key players get hurt or the team mysteriously takes a step backward (ala the 2007-08 season). That won’t necessarily thrill a fan base that wants at least a small glimmer of hope for banner number seven…but it’s what we’ve got.

40 wins what are you smoking with all the moves this off season they will struggle to win 35 games i am a die hard bulls fan but i have had it with the people running this team they dont make the impact trades and cant get anyone to sign here oh by the way there putting all there chips in one basket for next years off season and i guarantee you that lebron or dwade arent going anywhere especially here so theyve done nothing this offseason and theyll do nothing next offseason meanwhile they loose all there young pieces to free agency when they could have traded for better low post players dont know about you but i dont see it getting better for bulls fans anytime soon

I don’t know about that mike, I think the Bulls will be in the top 8 playoff spot this year with the team they have right now. But they are not a contender team for a championship yet. I see the Bulls getting the 6th or 5th spot in the playoff, if they don’t make a trade move for an All-Star player. But if they can make a move during the deadline if the team is not playing good, they should still go after a PF player like: David Lee or Chris Bosh and then I can see them moving up the playoff !

Luol Deng is in the gym every day working on his shot and hitting the weights. He’s already gained 12-15 pounds. So he’s walking around at 6’9″ 235lbs. He’s going to have a strong season. I just saw rose in Las Vegas and he is looking considerably stronger too. He looks like he added about 10 more pounds of muscle. Noah and Tyrus has also been hitting the weights and working on their games vigorously this off-season.

Lets put this into focus this is not going to be a champion ship year but it will be a good year for the bulls one thing we need to really assure ourselves of is that if you want to have a chance to be the best then next year you must have money to do that along with talent and the bulls have both right now what they must do is build off last year b4 you know it 2010 is here and we(the bulls) will be ready not only with money offer but a team full of a bright future to insure a player with great abilities joins the team and makes us a real contender but all is not lost this year may suprise alot of fans and teams but it will not suprise me the bulls will be better then ok mabe not great I say again mabe not great but the talent is there to be great they just need to put it all out there on the court at one time as A team our 2010 might be now stay tuned and watch the baby bulls become adults this year. Get yr popcorn ready and make sure you got a good seat its gonna be a fun time in chi again (the Rose ) has blossomed time to shine peace

hey garcia look i love the bulls but 5th or 6th seed what are you smoking they where the 7th seed last year with a better backcourt wich was there strong point now there week at the back court and they stiil dont have a low post player you better hope they get bosh cause dwade is not coming to chi town i wish but he is not or james they need to make a deal for bosh then they would be 5th or 6th seed dont forget the east got a lot stronger and we got weeker i hope your right but i think you need to lay off the grass lol

  6. chris July 27, 2009 at 9:56 pm #

if capt kirk and deng and rose all stay healthy there is no reason why the bulls won’t be in the playoffs, james johnson is a nice player and will contribute alot and noah made a strong push late last season no he’s not a 15 and 10 kind of a guy but he knows his role and helps the scorers do their jobs, this team will be a strong team, better then last year, the lose of lil Ben stings a little, but allows the team to beat other teams with more of a team effort, it’s the teams that play like a team that win in this league, no 7th ring just yet but we’re heading in the right direction

hey chris you pull that one out your ass i can see that you been smoking some grass yourself johnson is the answer you dont know ball boy let me make this clear i love the bulls but let me say this to you people the bulls will not make the bleepin playoffs allowing 103 points per game they dont play d now they dont have anyone who can score 20 a night kay capt kirk is not a 2 guard he is a point guard you have no post player and you lost you bleepin leading scorer and we apparently cant a trade that would bring boozer here the raptors will be better this year the sixers get brand back the heat get odom and wizards will be healthy and you guys think the bulls will be in the playoffs not with the team they have right now

david lee they cant seem to even get him they gave up on boozer there puting all there eggs in one basket if the raptors have a good season witch they wiil they made moves to get better bosh wiil not leave see what i mean they need to make a move or this core of players wont get it done they will win some games but not enough to get into the playoffs and if they dont get rose some good players around him he wiil leave

  9. chris July 28, 2009 at 12:33 am #

mike clearly your the one with something in your ass or mouth which ever you prefer, i didn’t say james johnson was the answer but a solid contributer, nor did i say this team was going to be an elite team, since your such a pro at anylzing basketball list 8 teams that are better then the bulls in the east, you need to settle down, 1.Boston 2. Orlando 3. Cleveland
4 Atlanta 5. finsh the list mike?

  10. chris July 28, 2009 at 12:39 am #

mike your an idiot, you think philly is going to be better with jrue holliday at point or the raptors yeah hedo alright and bosh is nice as well but aside from that who else is on that team oh yeah they just signed Rasho and jarret jack, and washington? for real, man when has mike miller ever made a difference or dose randy foye make them that much better, your no bulls fan bro, next you’ll be picking the knicks to make the finals, and would carlos Loozer really make that big of a difference playing on 32 games, and kirk can play both the point and the 2 guard,

  11. chris July 28, 2009 at 12:50 am #

who left chicago within recent years beacause of a lack of surrounding talent? Ben left due to lack of intrest from management. sorry mike i’m not picking on you or nothing, just settle down this is still a young team yeah the bulls are still missing that one guy who can make championship difference but so are most other teams in the league, just accept another strong year form a group of young talented guys to grow, patience is a virtue young mike

You tell them Mike. I can’t believe people think this team is going to make the playoffs. Who do they think they are going to beat. Maybe New York, New Jersey and Milwaukee. Everyone has made moves to get better while the bulls have done nothing. They struggled to beat Indiana last year who was a team that had alot of injury’s and Toronto has added better players. Sorry but it is time to trade Kirk instead of paying him 9.5 million to come off the bench, Rose is the future if they can put some pieces around him. I don’t even see them getting into the 8th spot for the playoffs due to Cleveland, Boston, Orlando, Detroit, Atlanta, Miami, Toronto, Philly, Washington and Indiana will be improved.

    Felipe Garcia July 28, 2009 at 5:33 am #

Mike, I think your the one who was smoking sum bad glass last year when you were watching the season. Lets not forget last year they did not have Salmon, Deng, Hinrich and Miller at the beginning of the season, that is way they were not playing so good. Then later on, they added Hinrich back from his injury with their new players Salmon and Miller and started playing really good. Now that they have everyone back with Deng being healthy, Thomas and Noah playing better for new contracts and having Salmon and Miller play at the beginning of the season, they are going to be just fine. Plus lets not forget about Rose, he is going to be an All-Star player, now that BG is gone. Plus what 8 teams are you talking about that got better in the east? The only teams that got better in east are the: Celtics, Orlando & Cleveland every one else is at same level in the east that have the chances of making it into the playoff spots. I don’t why people think the Bulls took a step back? To me, they took more of a step forward.

Mike & Anonymous I strongly agree with Garcia he know his shit about basketball, both of you guys got to get off that strong glass u been smoking on lol. You guys did not pay any attention to the Bulls season last year. Remember Rose was a rookie still, deng & hinrich were not healthy and they did not have Salmon or Miller at the beginning of the season. Now that they have everyone healthy, with two new big rookies with versatility & Rose playing at a high level, they are for sure going to make it into the top 8 playoff spots. The only way I don’t see them making it into the playoffs if someone gets hurt like: Deng or Hinrich. I agree with you guys that they are not a championship team yet but is a good start to for far with better defensive team then last year.

Plus the Bulls really don’t need BG because in the playoffs they have shown that they can still win games without him, when he foul out in game 6 and score only 12 points. We will just have to see how they will play this season coming up. Go Bulls!!!

hey chris when you are done sucking dick you ugly monkey i will finish the list toronto detroit washington you want to talk about the bulls not being healthy why did you fools see all the injuries the wizards had all year long including arenas their best player lets not forget the sixers who didnt have brand all year long i love the bulls yes they had injuries but if you fools remember theres a reason why they drafted rose to begin with thats because hinrich is inconsistent look at two years ago he averaged under 12 per game deng was only averaging 14 a game we have a bunch of jump shooters and we dont play defense im not saying i dont like some of the core young players all im saying 5 or 6 seed is ridiculous by the way chris we lost to the wizards without their good players including arenas so there it is i got the top 8 teams and no the knicks wont be in the finals you ugly monkey cause they have no chemistry and theyre all selfish players and last time i checked indiana was not all that bad last year we only finished 5 games ahead of them i still think we are better then them but not by much the bulls are what they are a 500 team at best you want to talk about salmons and miller lets talk about them salmons had a career year you better hope he puts up at least close to the same numbers and miller is just another jump shooting center who cant score with his back to the basket and hes slow to move laterally with his feet thats why noah starts cause hes better defensively carlos loozer chris on his bad days can still score with his back to the basket better than any powerforward on this team right now all im saying is we need somebody in the front office who knows what they are doing and to talk about rose yes he will be better hes the only all star on this team but lets not forget that they got extremely lucky to get him because thats not going to happen to many times since you guys know so much lets talk trades tyrus thomas for lemarcus alridge? tyson chandler for elton brand? we could have had a finals team by now but this front office sucks and they are cheap thats all i got fools

I hate to be negative I have been a bulls fan my whole life, but I have a hard time finding where the scoring is going to come from with this roster. Rose has a chance to be great if they put a low post scorer and SG around him. Right now opposing teams can stop what Rose does best (going to the rim) by packing everyone in the paint since the Bulls have no low post scoring threats. I don’t think to many teams are going to lose sleep over worry about Salmons or Hinrich either. Opposing teams can slide defenders off those two to stop Rose as well. I hope Deng can stay health because he is about the only other consistant mid range shooter on the team. If this season is going to come down to rely on Salmons and Hinrich it could be along year. I hope the reports about Rose, Thomas and Noah working on there game is correct if they want to salvage a sub par season and maybe getting the 8th spot in the playoffs. The only thing is as a dedicated life long Bulls fan the 7th or 8th playoff spot and getting bounced out of the playoffs in the first round is unacceptable to me. I would hope that would be unacceptable to the rest of you Bulls fans as well.

O yah lets not forget mike, the bulls did make it into the playoff last year when they got back Hinrich, Salmon and Miller and without deng playing. If it wasn’t for those three keys players during the end of the season, they would have not made it into the playoff even if BG scores 30ppt per game. Remember this is still a young team and getting better each year just like Atlanta was when they were a young team. But i do agree with you that if the Bulls can make a trade for Boozer or Lee, they will be a much better and move up into the playoff spots.

When the Bulls got back Hinrich, Salmons & Miller and without Deng last year, they became a playoff team. If they did not have those three keys players last year they would have not been in the playoff team even if BG scores 30pts per game. ive been a bulls fan all my life and would never talk down on the bulls. aint this the same management that got us the six rings its not there fault that big name free agents arent coming to chicago its the weak minded free agents that want to run to already built contenders. what happen to the magics, birds, jordans, isiahs, and now even the kobe’s who stick with their teams thru the struggles all the way to titles if u r a real baller make your team better and quit jumpin ship. i think thats what rose will do for us. all our previous top draft picks were nothing but role players even brand he aint never carried a team on his back as a title contender. rose is the first legitimate corner stone we have had since mr. jordan. and as far as lil ben i liked him but he could not and will not be able to defend his position. it doesnt pay to score 20 plus and give up 30. i enjoyed u ben and wish u luck but u was not the answer for us. one last note we didnt have a back to the basket scorer on either of our 6 championship rosters.

mike the heat got who jermaine o’neal oh boy that would have been scary 4 years ago i don’t know if you know this the dude suffered some major knee injuries he’s pretty much done, odom greate talent but rarely shows it, carlos Loozer sucks i hate to say it but i wouldn’t want anything to do with him can’t stay healthy and can’t even committ to a team yeah i want that guy on my team lol, further Noah starts ahead of miller because he’s younger more in the tank miller is a good center to have coming off the bench not only can he shoot but the guy really know how to pass the ball out of the post, which is good to have when your team is loaded with shooters, salmons is a upgrade over ben gordon that’s almost hard for me to say considering lil ben was money come crunch time but he’s a short two guard that couldn’t play D, and also the bulls drafted Rose Because he’s FUCKIN D Rose, hell they would have drafted derrick rose if they had Mike and scotty on the team not because neither one them couldn’t handle the ball but beacause D Rose is that good! and if you think elton brand is worth a damn then tell me why philly was trying to unload him already he can’t stay healthy mike you honestly think he’ll play a full season come on dude not happening, washington will be better, gilbert will never be the player he was he’s knees won’t let him he still be a very good player but not the assasin he once was, jamison well he’s antwan Jamison, they will be a decent team as far indy they’re heading in the right direction, toronto ive got nothing on them really but i just don’t expect much from them

These are some of the most foul mouthed know it alls I have ever read. The Wizards Arenas is one player they have no coach or stones they weren’t that good when he was healthy. Indiana is in a shambles, the 76er’s had a great season time to revert back, Brand is damaged goods now and a defensive liability, Miami is Wade and nothing else. And Detroit is a joke. so why can’t the Bulls make 5th or 6th seed all you naysayers think too much and shoot off those foul mouths without any ammunition just a bunch of unsubstantiated guesses.

eventhough reports say it seems unlikely that we will make a blockbuster trade this offseason. If we did i would much rather we get lee than carlos boozer. i say this because not only is lee far less expensive but he is a better fit for our team. carlos has a bad reputation for quitin on his team, while lee seems to be an overachiever, and if he didnt quit on the knicks i doubt he will quit on my bulls. also, it would be better for us because lee is a free agent therefore we can pursue him without have to lose kirk( which seems like what we would have to do to acquire boozer). also i believe that even without us getting one of these players we are still a borderline playoff team as far as talent wise. we have a lot of young players with a lot of potential if noah can just manage a meager 10 points a game i can see him a sure fire 10 10 guy and thomas is a good a shotblocker as there is in the league. we have a lot of good pieces and are really just a llow post scorer(lee) away from being a true powerhouse in the east. i cant wait for the season to start.

O my god mike, U still won’t shut-up and drop it lol, do u even know what your saying about the Bulls? please keep checking your stats again buddy b-cuz last time I check Salmon did have a big game in the playoffs averaging 19 pts vs the Celtics and score 35 pts in game 6 while BG was on the bench watching him. As well as Hinrich scoring about 13 pts per game in the playoffs with big defensive stops. Sure BG had great numbers in the playoffs, but don’t forget he also gave-up a lot of big shots to Ray Allen, Paul Pierce & Rajon Rondo. And so what that they were playing the Celtics without KG and don’t forget, we did not have Deng at 100% because when Deng is healthy he can score bigs numbers like he did in the playoffs of 06-07 averaging 22 pts with big defensive stops. And you want to talk about the Bulls losing against bad teams last year like the wizards & raptors? Tell me this smart guy, what teams out their don’t lose against bad teams once in awhile? Remember, nobody is perfect like you mike lol. Come on man, get it through your thick head! trust me, the Bulls are going to make it into the playoffs again this year because the east is not that strong like the west: with the Lakers, Spurs, Mavericks, Nuggets, Trail Blazers, Jazz, Suns, Hornets & even the Clipper now. If the Bulls were playing in the west, then I would have taken your side and say that your right mike, the Bulls will not make it into the playoffs this year dumb ass. Like I said b4, what teams out their are you looking at in the east that are better then the Bulls? Making it into the playoffs this year? what: New York, Charlotte, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Indiana, Milwaukee, Atlanta, Detroit & Miami are you kidding me??? Besides we both know that the best teams right now in the east are the Celtics, Magic, Cavaliers, Toronto & maybe the Wizard if they are healthy will make it into the playoffs this year for sure. Every other team in the east right now have a good chance of making it into the playoffs like the Bulls. That is why I can see the Bulls taking the 6th or 5th seeded in the playoffs this year if everyone is healthy, with the team they have right now and if they can make a trade deal before the deadline adding someone like: David Lee, Carlos Boozer or Chris Bosh, then I could see them having the same chances of winning the east championship title.

Mike, the Bulls let Gordon go because he was an inconsistent scorer who was a liability on defense. BG would score single digits in 30 minutes or 30 points in 42 minutes. As much fun as Gordon was to watch the Bulls are an improved team without him.

Salmons, Pargo and Hinrich can hit the 3 pointer when Rose penetrates. Plus all three play better defense than Gordon. Rose needs to improve his outside shooting and his defense.

You really do not need to use such vulgar language, people will not give what you say much weight because of it. Remember children could be reading this.

What are you talking about now mike??? 0 my god you still won’t shut the fuck up! lol you need sum help kid, where you drop as a child? Man, I am going to have a long talk with your mom to night lol jk. 1st of all you dumb ass red neck, it’s common sense, when BG was guarding rondo pierce and allen (key word: one at a time, in other words switch guarding them) he let them score all the point they wanted to easily. Well Salmons and Hinrich made them work for their shoots and slow them down by getting stops. The Bulls will be a playoff team again trust me b-cuz just like I said before the east is still not that strong like the west and beside you still never answer my question smart guy, what 8 teams in the east are better then the Bulls right now? beside the teams I said already that are going to make it for sure. See you talk all this trash about the Bulls and you can even back it up with true stats and record sum Bulls fan you are. Just like mike killer said your father in other word lol jk. Just please stop making comments because you r making yourself look stupid, just switch on watching the WNBA and talk all you want about them.

First of all Boppinbob, kids are going to learn all these types of bad words eventually, I have 4 kids myself, I raised them all, their respectful to me and other and they are all straight A students. No matter what you do, they will learn all these types of bad words eventually. It’s all part of growing up, just like everybody in this world. But if you teach them that is wrong and what it means, then your a good parent by teaching them not to use it. Just let kids be kids fight their issues with words and without hurting anybody physically. You have to understand they are really die heart Bulls fans just like myself and my kids. Anyway, I see a bright future for the Bulls and they are heading in the right direction by making it into the playoffs this year if they all stay healthy.
