Gold medalist D-Rose on the ‘Melo rumors

From FanHouse: “Right now, I think that we have our team (in order for the season),” Rose said. “If it was something like (a trade for Anthony), I would have heard it (was close) or somebody would have called me. Nobody has called me yet. He’s still in Denver. He hasn’t said he wants to leave. So right now, I’m just playing it between the lines and worrying about what’s going on (in Turkey).”

Speaking of what’s going on in Turkey, congrats to Derrick on winning a gold medal with Team USA. In the gold medal game aginst the Turkish national team, Rose had 8 points (4-for-11) and a game-high 6 assists.

Congrats to D Rose, too bad his jumper in the final game was flatter than a witch’s tit. Heck, even Asik can shoot better than him. I hope Thibs watched the game too :)

Rose’s jumper did get a little flat a few games ago. In his defense the ball they use is quite different from the NBA ball and it can affect your shot. He was still very aggressive on defense and the best facilitator on the USA team.

What about Asik? I like a lot of what I saw of him. He is a big dude that can really move around.

    D. Rose refuses to comment on a rumor.

I say trade for Melo when the NBA puts two balls in play at once.

I say F**k Melo, the Bulls don’t really need him. We already have a stronger team this season with Rose, Noah, Boozer and Deng.

Right now, the only position that I kind of see the Bulls lacking on is the Shooting Guard and Center position on offense only. Unless Ronnie Brewer and James Johnson can average about 8-11 ppg along with Thomas and Asik, then we are good to go for a championship title.

Defensively we have those guys that can make stops and I think that is going to be our strong force point this season, like the Detroit Pistons from 2004-2005.

Exactly my point because Noah is a another Scottie Pippen/game changer whichever one my fellow Bulls fans prefer not Carmelo Anthony.Carmelo Anthony is a very good athlete, not a great changer like Noah and I can guarantee it Chicago will keep him in the Windy City by re-signing him when his contract is up. GO BULLS!!!!

    BoppinBob September 14, 2010 at 1:21 pm #

Noah is no Pippen. He is comparable to Bill Cartwright. Solid defense and some scoring. The Nuggets are the ones behind the eight ball in the Melo deal. If they don not make a trade before next season they will lose Melo and get nothing. They will trade him by the trading deadline. While it would be nice to have Melo, I am not sure he is worth giving up 40% of the second team in the deal(Gibson & Johnson) along with Deng. The Nuggets will get more desparate as timegoes by. At the trading deadline the Bulls will know how Deng is working in both the offense and defense and can determine whether they really need Melo to make the big step towards the championship.

Are yall smoking crack, dont watch denver…or just Carmelo haterswho wouldnt like him a=in a bulls uniform cuz they personally dont like him or his attitude…Melo at his best is probably one of the best in the league right under lebron kobe and and maybe durant wade(has capability of being best in league) at times he was the best of the floor for team usa all throught recent history…he can dominate completely at the 3 and the 4 positions…he would have been scoring champ this year over lebron and durant if he did not get injured during the season…his only knock was his bad defensive efforts which you cant even say anymore since he played his first significant playoff series and lost to L.A. 2 years ago in the conference finals… thats when he figured out what it takes to win…Ever since then his defense has stepped up significantly its just his team is immature as a whole…melo would make any team in the nba better if he joins them….the lakers would dump artest in a heartbeat for melo…….I love deng and all but i would trade him gibson jjohnson(gibson and jjohnson can be replaced) and whatever draft pick for a player like melo…just not noah only because noah make the bulls cycle complete with rose and boozer…any other day i would trade noah too(why u think the bulls seriously considered it)but if we lose noah deng and gibson the bulls wouldnt be as deep…but a lineup of rose brewer melo boozer and noah could beat miami and l.a. any night…u must be crazy to not want that…lets true bulls fans hope denver realizes they might not get a better offer then what the bulls can offer for melo without giving up noah and denver accept the deal!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. reef September 14, 2010 at 2:11 pm #

saying melo is not a game changing alpha dog in the nba is like saying lebron has no athleticsm…straight up…he led syracuse to a national championship(durant couldnt do that 4 texas)I actually watch basketball and seen melo do for denver what lebron and kobe does for their teams…only difference is denver is not as good as L.A. and did not gel together as well as cleveland did with lebron in the east…he just needs a change of scenery and teamates and coaches around him with a mature a proffesional attitude(Chicago Bulls-Rose, Noah, coach Thibbs) not like in denver with birdman jrsmith billups and kenyon martin

You Bulls fans are funny. Is your Bulls squad anything more than a transplanted version of the Jazz of the last two years with a worse coach and a worse PG?
    DWill > Rose
    Boozer = Boozer
    Brewer = Brewer
AK47 = Deng (I think that’s a wash. Both solid when healthy, but injury prone.)
Noah > Okur (not as much as you think. Okur’s shooting created a lot of space for Boozer by clearing out the opposing center.)
    Millsap > Gibson
    Korver = Korver

Of your top 7, only one player is better than the Jazz’s top 7. And they had DWill instead of Rose.

The Jazz were good but not close to being a championship team…. why would this Bulls squad be one?

I will go as far as to say the Bulls will have a better record then the Denver “who” with or without Melo. Don’t hate on us just because your team can’t make their star player want to stay.

If you really were a knowledgeable fan you would know that comparing teams as you did above is too superficial to be close to accurate. It is all about chemistry and how well the players play together. Jazz had no second interior defender like Noah, nor did they have the youth and athleticism that is on our team. Time will tell how silly your brief analysis really was. In two years you will not have Billups or Melo, good luck to you!

  13. PTFC September 14, 2010 at 6:05 pm #

    Nugs fan,

Defense wins championships and the Bulls were a better defensive/rebounding team then Jazz LAST YEAR and will only be better this year.

Also, I’m not too sure how MUCH better Dwill is then Rose. Rose averaged more ppg. Rose averaged few less assist per game yes, but this will change since Rose now has more reliable scoring options to pass too. Can Dwill shoot better then Rose, yes, that’s one advantage. But who is a better scorer in general? Rose.

    So lets recap:

    1. Bulls have Noah
    2. Bulls are a better defensive team
    3. Bulls are a better rebounding team
    4. Bulls have the PG that is a better scorer (and the assist will even out)

    Pretty significant differences.

  14. Matt Steigenga September 14, 2010 at 11:13 pm #

Nugs fan Your gonna have to change the DWill>DRose in a yr or so because DRose almost is as good as DWill. And in your comparisons you didn’t really compare benches as much. CJ Watson could be starting as PG for almost any other NBA team out there but being behind DRose is an automatic bench spot at PG. CJ Watson>than Jazz backup PG.

And stop hating on our Bulls, call me when the Nuggets have 6 NBA Titles (I take it your a Nuggets fan with that name Nugs Fan) and one of those Titles being greatest team ever—72-10.

    @ Nugs fan

Y did u have to post something stupid like that by insulting our Bulls team? When clearly you don’t know shit about our team.

For example we made the playoffs last season with a garbage roster and got eliminate in the 1st round by Cleveland. You guys also got eliminate in the 1st round but, against an average team like yourself.

And now, we clearly have a way stronger team this season to complete for a championship and your hating on that.

Plus Melo, Billups and Martin are leaving soon! Good luck re-building again. Peace!

  17. BULL4EVER September 15, 2010 at 3:17 pm #

The only way Chicago is in a re-building mode is if they give up way too much [including Noah] for Carmelo Anthony and Chicago zero interest in trading all those top prospects for just one prospect in return and that is not at all worth putting on the table.Speaking of the Bulls they are totally closer to winning NBA titles year after year with Noah in the mix than Carmelo Anthony.Carmelo Anthony is good player,he is not a great great game-changer as I pointed out earlier. GO BULLS!!!!!

    LOBOS September 15, 2010 at 6:43 pm #

I like D. Rose but I personally never liked PG’s without range.

When you think of the best PG’s that played the game, the majority of them have a solid jump shot and the experience to facilitate and control the tempo of a game by making other players better with timely assist.

    D. Rose APG 6.0/Power Ranking 83rd.
    D. Rose 3 point % was so bad that his power ranking wasn’t available on ESPN stat page.

I used to tell people the same thing about A. Iverson although he play a different position. Unlike Rose, A.I. had a jump shot but without the speed to create space to make those jump shots A.I. services are no longer needed.
A.I. game was always based on his speed, due to father time, speed is one of the first things to go when you’re talking sports and the results are A.I. considering China.
Rondo is another PG that fits this mold.
With that said, Melo would be the perfect compliment to D. Rose.
Melo is a pure scorer that opposes a nightmare for defensive coordinators.
Once again, if we can get Melo without losing Noah that would be great, but if not, I would take Melo over Noah in a heartbeat.

  19. Smitty September 15, 2010 at 8:10 pm #

I have to ask a question. Their were games that I watch where D. Rose passed the ball to teammates who missed the shot. Since the person missed, it does not count as an assist. Wouldn’t that mean that his low assist percent is more related to the team’s low Offensive Point average?

    Savage September 15, 2010 at 9:03 pm #

    Lobos,

It is not about Melo over Noah. We would be giving up Deng and Noah. Which would leave us starting K. Thomas at Center. How you think that would upgrade our current team is beyond me. The drop off of talent from Noah to K. Thomas is in my opinion far greater than the drop off of talent from Melo to Deng.

Also, your comparison of Rose to Iverson is a bit flawed. First they play a different position. Second one is a gym rat that you can’t get off the practice floor and the other (AI) was not very fond of practice. Meaning, I think Rose will elevate his game just as many of the greats did through hard work in the gym and practice floor. All the greats had drop offs in athleticism as time went on the difference is they worked on improving other aspects of their game to compensate for the loss of athleticism. I think Rose has the determination/dedication to do the same.

Can Melo play the 5? I don’t think so. Therfore, don’t trade Noah for him. You don’t substantially weaken yourself at one spot to strengthen yourself at another spot. That type of logic is why the shitty teams stay shitty year after year after year.

Far as the Nuggets are concerned, they can keep Melo. Enjoy your one and done playoffs, kids.

Bulls seem to be out of the running for the ‘Melo sweepstakes for the moment. Nice post (and comments) on Bulls Confidential about which team (Bulls, Nets, Knicks, or Magic) has the better odds of landing ‘Melo.

    http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-confidential/

While most comments here jumped on Nugs Fan with a lot of venom and hate, I’d say he’s not far from the truth. That said, the Jazz have been pretty good (50+ wins) past three of four seasons. While short of being title contenders, they did make it as far as conference finals and that would be huge improvement that I will gladly take as a Bulls fan. And while I like D-Rose, he has a long ways to go before he catches up with D-Will. I know I will generate a lot of hate mail for what I’m about to say. D-Will’s game is pretty complete, (scoring, dishing, defending, 3pt range), D-Rose at this time in his career is a scorer only, though he is improving in the other areas. I have not yet seen the creativity in setting up plays for others from Rose as I have from elite point guards such as Gary Payton, Jason Kidd, Nash, Paul and D-Will. (Living in NJ, I got to witness J. Kidd first hand, the man could control a game with passing and defense, even without scoring!) D-Rose’s passing game looks mechanical. Watching Kidd, Nash, Paul, Rondo and D-Will, their passing game is as fun to watch as their scoring. D-Will is arguably the best point guard in the league right now if you take into account his durability and playoff performance over CP3 and better defense than Nash. To me Right Now D-Rose’s is closer to Tony Parker or a Stevie Francis. Of course D-Rose has the tools and potential to be as good or better than D-Will. For Bulls sake, I hope he’ll blossom.

I do think though that this Bulls team is as good as the Jazz teams with Williams, Boozer, Okur, and Kirilenko with perhaps an edge on defense. So it should be a lot of fun watching this team and contending for conference title.

    Is it October yet?

    Savage September 18, 2010 at 11:39 pm #

We will have to wait and see, but I do not think this team will be much like the Jazz of the past. Rose is a much different point guard than D Will and Noah brings athleticism and a skill set that the Jazz never had at the center position. I also think we have a deeper bench this year than the Jazz had with Gibson, Watson, and Korver all being very capable backups. And while I think Rose has a way to go I was talking to a friend of mine that has been an avid Jazz fan for many years said he would take Rose over D Will right now. Not sure I would go that far but it helps demonstrate that some like myself see him being pretty close to D Wills level and capable of being even better than him in the near future.

I’m sorry but saying Rose is like a S. Francis right now is pretty out there. Francis never seemed willing to put the team above himself and Rose does that. Rose appears to be much more coachable which makes a big difference in team success when it involves a point guard in my opinion. I can’t wait for the season either its gonna be an exciting one!

  25. Matt Steigenga September 19, 2010 at 1:21 am #

Steve Francis is the same punk that pretty much paid off ELton Brand in begging him to share that Rookie of the Year award back in 2000 because we all know BULLS Rookie ELtn Brand was the only Rookie of the YR in 1999-00. And D Rose way greater than STeve Francis. I even heard another knucklehead say ROndo’s passing is amazing. LOL uhm, its okay but not amazing. Any Average PG can make a simple pass to Ray ALlen and Paul Peirce coming off of screens or KG with great post position and thats gonna get you a lot of assists. D ROSE>>>RONDO, we saw that when Rondo got cut from Team USA.

  26. chicondo@hotmail.com'
    luvabullnj September 20, 2010 at 5:21 pm #

    Savage,

Always like to read your comments as they are well thought out. When I compared D-Rose to Tony Parker and Stevie Francis, it is strictly based on basketball skills on the court. Not his attitude or demeanor or coach-ability. Of course Rose is already at their peak level only after two seasons and he is still showing rapidly rising improvement curve so Rose should be a much better player then either of those two in a year or two. That said, passing skill is not accurately reflected by checking the assist totals in the box score. Rose will no doubt have a higher assist average this year. However, what I would like to see from him is better court vision. I would like to see him make more passes that lead to another pass for an easy bucket. In other words more “hockey assists”.

    Matt Steig…,

I hate Rondo. I hate him for the cheap shot on Brad Miller. I hate him for throwing Captain Kirk into the scorers table. I wouldn’t like him even if he played for the Bulls, just because of his personality. But I’d have to side with that knucklehead, Rondo’s passing is, if not amazing, certainly elite. Think about it, the guy can’t shoot or make free throws to save his life. Yet he is the starting PG for a club that won the championship and nearly won another in two of the last three seasons. He has clearly taken over the leadership of a club that has KG, Pierce and Allen on the team. And he PG for a coach who was a pretty good PG in his playing days. He may be the enemy, but you have to respect his game. By the way he got cut mostly because he can’t make a jumper or free throws, both of which are very necessary skills in FIBA basketball. An his personality probably didn’t help his cause either with coach K.
By the way IMHO Russel Westbrook played as well or better than D-Rose for Team USA.

  27. contrerasadvocates@yahoo.com'
    Savage September 20, 2010 at 8:06 pm #

luvabullnj, I agree that Rondo is an elite passer. And I hate him as many Bulls fans do.

I am not as concerned with Rose’s passing as you are. I think he is a very capable passer who seems to be improving each year. My main concern with Rose is his Mid-Range to 3 Point-Range shooting and his difficulties on Defense. I really hope all the work he has been doing on his shot pays off. I couldn’t get a great idea of that on the US Team because of a lack of attempts. I also hope he has been putting in time practicing and listening to knowledgeable coaches on how he can become a more dependable defender. Westbrook did play well on the US team but I think that has more to do with Rose trying to adapt his game to best help the team win. When it comes to the NBA game where Rose is a franchise player expected to make things happen for the Bulls that is really when he shines much more brightly than a Westbrook in my opinion.
