The battle for J.J. Redick is heating up!
Wow. Seriously never thought I’d ever string those words together…in English or any other language devised by humankind. But that’s where we are.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, Quentin Richardson has agreed to a multi-year deal with the Orlando Magic. This could mean that the Magic are preparing for life without Redick. Of course, it could also mean they’re preparing for life without Matt Barnes, who is a free agent.
Redick is a key component to Orlando’s game plan. But Chicago’s 3-year, $19 million offer — which is heavily front loaded — is a major deterent. As the Orlando Sentinal’s Magic blog points out: “Here’s the rub: Redick’s deal will reportedly mean the Magic could take as much as a $14 million tax hit (including his first-year salary).”
That’s an awful lot of money to throw around. But then again, the Magic might feel the pressure of a closing championship window and Vince Carter’s impending free agency (his contract is set to expire after this season).
Interesting development becuase Magic now has alot of decent 3pt shooters as is at the wing/shooting gaurd position such as Anderson, Peitrus, and now Q. Richardson. If they keep Reddick then Magic will be short of defense at that position. Magic can let go of Reddick and use the money on Barnes or sign Ronnie Brewer for even less money. If I were Otis, I would save cap money by giving up on Reddick and sign Brewer for less money.
I dont understand why the Bulls didnt go after Q Rich, especially considering the fact that hed probably be cheaper than Redicks offer sheet, is of a starting caliber, can shoot and PLAY DEFENSE. We just overpaid for a lesser player in my eyes. I dont understand. Now who is gonna start? Redick is NOT a starter.
I wonder if Redick would be a better defender if he added another “d” to his name?
Don’t go flipping out just yet guys. In my opinion Richardson is not a starter on a very good team either. I was a bit frustrated that we did not go after Steve Blake as a backup pg. Redick is a good addition he can hit threes with the best of them and starting or not we need that. I think he has the ability to play some gritty defense and Coach T will likely teach him a thing or two. Why we didn’t try to get Morrow is beyond me he would be so very cheap to get. On the defense tip we should try to see if we could get R. Brewer for a good price no one appears to be going after him. M. Barnes would also be worth looking into as a back up SF.
Um, not a deal-breaker or anything… I just didn’t realize that Omer Asik is sporting about 36% at the free throw line … wow, fun.

Morrow could have been had EASILY, but I don’t think he was even in the mix at all!!! Obviously, Bulls were very high on Redick all along and view him as the ideal shooting gaurd along side D.Rose and Boozer.
I’m hoping Asik can play like Biedrins. I just listened to a little breakdown of him game from Euroleague and he “runs the floor like a guard”, attacks the rim, has a feel for blocks and has no jump shot. Please let Brad Miller be on this team to teach this kid … please.

Orlando is already over the Luxury Tax, I don’t know if they want to go much more over.
I’m not worried about Redick, defensively. I liked what I saw from him in the playoffs. He is young enough where we haven’t seen all he has to offer yet.
Reddick is gonna be a great pick up and he will make a solid contribution to our bulls this I am sure of yet is he a starter in time we will find that out cause he is getting starter money .
I think the Orlando Magic is not planning to re-sign JJ Reddick since they already sign Q. Richardson to take his spot and I think they are planning not to pay over the luxury tax.
Eventually I think they are going to re-sign Matt Barnes since he is an all around player: (defense and offense.)
Which is why I think the Bulls should go after right away Ronnie Brewer for a good price since, he is still available to finish building our backup bench players.
We can move JJ Reddick as a backup PG for D. Rose since he is a pretty good passer and move Ronnie Brewer as a backup SG next Kyle Korver. Then hopefully we can resign Brad Miller to a 1 year deal to backup J. Noah.
At least Asik gives us an additional 6 fouls for guys like Howard. I highly doubt we’ll see much of him this year, especially if we get Brad back, and we’ll surely never see him in crunch time. This will just be a development year for him.

I think this line up can be competitive with the top teams in the east espcially with a proven veteran bench of Miller, House, Barnes, Korver, and Ridnour.

Worst case scenario is a bench that is lacking in good 3pt shooters besides Korver, players who didn’t play important roles with their previous teams, and no proven veteran leadership. Why do I have the bad feeling that the Bulls are going to end up with the worst case scenario team or something like!!!
redick may be the best fit for us. he reminds me a lot of hindreck and all i keep hearing about is that he cant play d. well im not sure if you know but he did come from duke and they play pretty damn good defense. it has taken him a couple of years to figure of the pro game but its coming around. his 3 point shot is getting better from the longer range and his passing skills are much improved too. not only can he play at the 2 but i think he would be a good backup for rose at the point. with a defensive minded coach and a bunch of guys that do play d i think you will see a different player in redick. i mean he came from orlando and other than howard and barnes they dont play a lot of d either so what did you expect from a guy whose only job really was to be a spot shooter.
Not sure where this Reddick can’t play D vibe is coming from. The reason he was given more and more minutes up to the point of being given a signicant amount in the ECF was because he improved A TON on defense. The guy can play both sides of the ball.
