Tom Thibodeau and Chicago’s pick-and-roll defense

Sebastian Pruiti of NBA Playbook has provided a rather extensive description of how new Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau will improve Chicago’s pick-and-roll defense.

It’s a great read. Check it out.

Bulls have played similar defensive sets in the past. I remember Game 6 against the Celtics when Noah stole it from Pierce, ran the floor, slammed it home for a vicious And 1. That was very similar to this, but Pierce was handling the ball instead of a point guard, and Noah anticipated the corner pass to Ray Allen while they ‘swarmed’ the ball handler.

If they were in the top 10 defensive team with a coach with “elementary” plays (as some would say), then imagine if they learn some discipline and a better sense of TEAM defense. Very exciting, but we will still need someone to hit some 3’s on the offensive side of the ball. That was a real back-breaker last year in games.

Too bad the Bulls just traded away perhaps their best perimeter defender…

I was not happy to see kirk go but if it means we get bosh and james or bosh and johnson then I woulfd do it all over again , besides all the details of this trade they made with the wizards has not been revealed yet I think there is more than possibly cap space in between to try and get the players the bulls are going for. I am not sure if labron is our true target I heard someone say the bulls may need to trade Rose if they cannot coexist lBJ and Rose well I would not trade rose even if it meant LBJ must go I think Rose has an upside that has no cealing and we have not seen his best ball yet remember rose is just 20 yrs old got like five more years to go to get to bosh and james think where he might be by then in the league well enough crazy talk rose aint going no where I know . but TT best get this team together fast vinny has chance to coach somewhere else and if he does well there or gets job TT hire will look bad if the bulls do not become better with him as the caoch so I hold my judement of TT for now but I liked Vinny yes he made mistakes but the team still played hard for him and they won there way into the playoffs under him those are the facts . Peace

That person that said Rose would need to be traded if he couldn’t co-exist with LeBron is a ratard. Rose can play with anyone, for as young as he is..he’s very humble and just wants to win. He was quoted to saying at the end of this past season that he didn’t like taking 25 shots a game down the stretch but he knew he had to.. to help the Bulls make the playoffs.

Sorry, I think it’s stupid to think Rose can’t play with anyone or there might be a problem. Rose is very unselfish and so is James. James always had the ball in Cleveland cause he was the offense. He had to do it all there..I think Rose and James would play great together. So would Rose and Wade..but that doesn’t matter..we’ll see what happens starting July 1st.

@Trm3 – great post. I’m a fan of michael jordan and i’m hoping the bulls can get another championship again. Another thing, i really hate MJ being compared with Kobe. This comparison plus the fact that Kobe is so proud made me hate him more.

You said so many correct things about Rose and James.

“Rose is very unselfish and so is James” – that’s right. That’s why i like them both. James is not a ball hog like Kobe. James and Rose are not proud like Kobe. James actually gives more assists than Kobe.

I hope Bulls will be in the finals next season.

    @ TRM3 –
Thank you! James isn’t in the Jordan or Bryant mold – He is more like a Magic. A great passer that can play multiple positions, that is also why Deng should not cause any troubles. Play Rose at the 1 and James at the 2 – Monster lineup. He simply makes his teammates better, but can throw it down like Dominique!

I don’t want to keep sticking on James – there are other options that would make me just as happy. I’m not sure if we need all of the extra ‘craziness’ that comes with James.
