Free Agent Watch: Bosh and Wade are apparently off the board

From the ESPN NBA Rumors page: “ESPN The Magazine’s Chris Broussard reports Chris Bosh will join Dwyane Wade in Miami next season and an announcement is expected sometime on Wednesday.”

From the Bulls’ standpoint, everything is now resting on LeBron James’ decision. Assuming the Bulls have aspirations of being anything other than an average to slightly above average team.

I’m in the Ric Bucher camp here. We already have a superstar in Rose, and I believe that he will be the best PG in 11-12 if not this season. The goal of the offseason should be surrounding him with the talent to win a championship, and while it is not Wade/Bosh/LeBron, some group of Boozer/Lee with shooters (Miller, Allen, Korver) could help Rose develop and get us closer to a championship. This definitely sucks, but its not the end of the world.

i agree.. i love watching drose and he deserves a supporting cast if not a superstar teammate like lebron. if lebron wanted to win, he would come to the bulls and they would pick up boozer as well. but by the looks of it, it seems boozer and lee will be the next bulls, frankly, i don’t really want allen, i would rather get a jj reddick type. younger, quicker shooter.

Sign Ray Allen at the 2 and Boozer/Lee at the 4 for what they want to earn, and try to get Mike Miller at the 3 for the mid-level exception. That’s the best we can do at this point.

In regards to this news, let me be one of the first to extend a sincere “Well, SCREW YOU, TOO, THEN!” to Chris Bosh, and wish him nothing but bad luck in Miami. And I hope Wade’s crazy soon-to-be-ex-wife gets custody of those kids. Way to remember your roots, sell-out. Enjoy playing to 25% capacity attendance for the next six years. Worst fans in the league.

no bosh no wade, probably no lebron… seriously it would be a huge dis if he goes on national tv and reveals that he’s leaving the cavs, it’s pretty much certain that he’s staying in cleveland. what options do we have left? Boozer or Lee, probably waste money on Reddick, Miller, or Allen. This is turning into a disastrous off season quickly. still holding onto the 5% chance Lebron comes to Chicago, until tomorrow when all our dreams are really crushed

  6. bobbysimmons July 7, 2010 at 3:36 pm #

and by the way F wade for creating all this false drama for his stupid documentary, we all know now he had no intention of signing with the Bulls, I really despise him now

Old Allen? No Defense Miller? Wesley Matthews is our man here. Younger, cheaper, plays good defense and can shoot ball well.

We’ll be fine as long as we have Rose. Let’s go get him some more help, play defense and we’ll be just fine.

    Hey guys,

Heat fan here, not to gloat or anything, but to say I think you guys have fantastic things to come. I agree completely that Rose will be a superstar and will be the driving force of your offense for years to come, and he’ll be able to do much of what Wade could’ve done for you (ignite the drive-and-kick offense, create space for 3-pointers, etc.) Noah is a stud. Bring in a Boozer as your second scoring option, a few quality role players and a 3-point specialist, and you should have all you need.

    Good luck guys.

  9. TexasBearsFan July 7, 2010 at 3:44 pm #

Everyone says the Bulls are screwed…well, what do the Heat have besides Bosh and Wade now? What warm bodies are they going to stock their line-up with? I think Bosh will live to regret this decision.

As to LeBron, if he wants mediocrity, he can stay right there in Cleveland. They threw all the chips at it last season, and didn’t have enough. That team isn’t going to get better than it is now.

Meanwhile, our Bulls have 2 budding stars. I can’t believe that this blogger is ready to toss Noah and Rose under the bus so quickly. Hasn’t our general consensus been that Rose is a top 5 player in the making? Has Noah made huge strides each year? Do we not still have Deng and Gibson? Other than Heinrich, this team hasn’t given up anything of any real value since it’s playoff run with the Cavs. Not to mention, had the team not sustained huge injuries to half the lineup, we probably would have gone as high as a #5 seed. Not to mention that Kirk, god love him, isn’t really that good. Are we going to miss his 10 points a night? How about his 37% three point shooting?

I think the Bulls are going to be fine. It’s a setback, sure, but we’ll be ok.

Assuming Lebron stays in Cleveland. The front office needs to quickly sign Boozer to add the front court scoring we’ve severely lacked since Brand, and his Jazz teammate Korver who will provide the 3-point shooting we didn’t have last season. This fills 2 blatant holes and will allow us to retain some cap room to potentially go after Carmelo or someone else next season.

    Trm3 July 7, 2010 at 3:47 pm #

Oh well, can’t make guys come here. Even with Bosh Miami needs a lot more work.

We’ll be fine with Boozer and some shooters. I hope we don’t wait for James cause he’s not coming either.

  12. td7 July 7, 2010 at 4:02 pm #

This was so disapointing. 10 days ago I was feeling so good about the free agents. then i thought our chances of getting a superstar in Wade was pretty good. Wel, we still have rose

  13. Raevyrn July 7, 2010 at 4:03 pm #

Assuming this is true I’d really push for David Lee and Redick. Then the Bulls should save the rest of the money. If one thing has been made clear over the past year it’s don’t overpay for players. If you do pay too much, you have no flexibility going down the road and are just stuck. Keep the options alive and there’s a chance we can make a trade later in the year or be able to do things in next year’s free agency.

  14. vince July 7, 2010 at 4:10 pm #

Possible 2010-11 Bulls if Lebron James signs w/ Cleveland
    Starters Backup
    PG D.Rose Carlos Arroyo
SG Anthony Morrow or W. Mathews Mike Miller
    C J.Noah Brad Miller
PF C.Boozer or David Lee Udonis Haslem
    SF Loul Deng Matt Barnes

I think R.Allen is going back to the Celtics. The Celtics are bringing everyone back for another run. Is this a team that can beat Cleveland w/ James, M. Williams,& Ant.Jamison, Atlanta w/ J. Johnson, Josh Smith,& Al Horford, Boston with the Big three, Orlando with Dwight Howard, Miami w/ Wade and Bosh? I think the Bulls will be middle of the road team or worse for more years to come just like the prevous 12 years. I hope I’m wrong. Also, there’s no gaurantee that D.Rose and Noah will sign contract extentions w/ Bulls either.

Trm3 is right, we need to start pursuing the second tier and get either Boozer or Lee LBJ is not coming. Then I would love to see a player like Wesley Mathews, although Utah may match he is probably a good player to offer a little too much to and then let them match if they want. I just hope we can put a team together that can thump the Heat in the playoffs because I would love to see that happen.

Disappointing that we did not get the top three but I don’t think anyone could have convinced them to go anywhere but where they planned on being in the first place. Winning clearly is not the most important or they would be a few stars in Chicago right now. But we need to move on we have two great young talents in Rose and Noah, now we need to surround them with some players and see just how good they can be.

You know that wretched pain you get in your stomach when you know something awful is on the horizon? Yeah…

We can’t blame the organization for putting all their eggs into one basket. It looked like it was going to work! Virtually every single NBA afficionado had at least one marqee player coming to Chicago (including Simmons,Wilbon, Broussard, Abbott, and Stein).

If we don’t get LeBron, Wade, or Bosh, this whole experience amounts to epic failure proportions, but I am glad we tried. However, that awful feeling of impending doom – another five to ten years of mediocrity while attempting to overachieve – is lurking in my insides…

  17. RastaBull July 7, 2010 at 5:08 pm #

I can’t figure out whose better for Bulls b/w Boozer and Lee. Neither has great size. Boozer fits great with Rose and plays better defense. But Lee would come cheaper. Is there any way that if we sign Lee instead (then add a couple shooters) we could set ourself up for Melo (freeing up Deng by that time of course)?? That’s my new pipe dream I guess.

Realistically, I want to watch the Bulls beat the Heat in the Eastern Confrence Finals THIS YEAR. I think that means sign Boozer. Noah and Boozer is still the best frontcourt in the East (they’d have to play outta their minds to top the Lakers though). Bosh is not gonna have any help if he is in Miami. And remember, long as Deng is healthy he’s a great contributor. Noah, Boozer, Deng (and Gibson)…that team is easily in the tops in rebounding, and the potential for Thibs to make the best frontcourt D in the league. Boozer dominating the pick-n-roll. Boozer and Deng both lights out in their mid-rang game. And Boozer finally brings some positive post-game (albeit not our number one option but enough to add to the team identity). Overall, I’d be very happy to watch that frontcourt trot out every night.

I love Rose! I am VERY biased, but this is great news for his developement. He remains the star and now there is tons of cap to put the perfect pieces around him. The question is, who are they. Boozer settles the question in the frontcourt. The Bulls need to pick up the guards that best compliment Rose and this team (3-point shooters, and perimeter D). Here are the options:
    Mike Miller
    Wes Matthews
    JJ Reddick
    Anthony Morrow
    Kyle Krover
    Ray Allen

I like Miller and Wes in a perfect world. Miller has the best basketball IQ on the market, will shoot over 40 from 3 and around 50 FG%. He takes smart shots and can play with the ball in his hands. He’s got great size (6’8″) so he can play at the 3 when we play small or when we need another shooter on the floor (aka the other guard we sign), and he’s averged over 6 rebounds the last three seasons (fitting perfectly with the team identity). I miss Hinirch as well, but Miller is Hinrich with size and a consistent shot (Miller’s also averged 4 assists over the last 4 years). He will be the priciest of all the guards, but IMO he is well worth it. Someone called him “defenseless Miller”…I’m interested to hear more opinions cause I honestly don’t know. Even so, with our cap space we have room to signe ANOTHER guard. Wes plays excellent D and has a decent shot. He would be a perfect fit, unfortunately I think Utah will match anything he’s offered. The next guy I’d make a run at is Reddick. I love his ferocity on D and his ability to handle the ball. Not to mention he looks like he’s becoming a lights out shooter from anywhere on the floor, and he comes with tested playoff experience. Morrow’s another excellent shooter. Other than that I don’t know a lot about him, but with the way he shoots and his youth, I would not be upset at all with him. Korver is intersting, but I’m not sold. The Bulls need to sign 2 of these 5. Allen still has his shot, but doesn’t add enough other tangibles (and 34 is a bit old for anything more than 2 years). I think the Bulls should forget about him.
(On another note, what do you think of Shannon Brown to back up Rose? Could sign him on top of everything else and still remain under the cap. Brings eneregy…and he’s reppin’ Maywood and Proviso East!!)

    2010-11 Roster
    C- Noah…Asik
    PF- Boozer…Gibson
    SF- Deng…Johnson
    SG- Miller..Matthews/Reddick/Morrow
    PG- Rose…Brown/AC Law

Could be most balanced line-up in NBA. Great depth, rebounding, some solid shooters…and most importantly D-ROSE leading the charge.

what’s with all this, “it’ll be alright” crap???? this is the most terrible, horrible, no good, very bad disappointment ive felt in a while. i was really thinking we were going to do something special.

my final hope is that this hour long special on espn consists of lebron apologizing for giving up on his home town. otherwise i see a year long of eating comfort foods and crying myself to sleep.

if anything double check with dirk if he really wants to keep getting blue balled with the same team every year in dallas.

What about trading for Al Jefferson? That would make the most sense. He would be PF (I know he is a 5 but could play the 4) that can score and rebound. With him and Noah the Bulls would have a big frontcourt. He is coming off of knee surgery (a year plus ago) but this is the season that he should be healthy and rumor is that Minnesota would love to get rid of him and sing David Lee.

what everyone is not talking about is what this offseason means… its not just that we might not get one off these guys but we might loose rose because off it… i have been right all along but everone craps on me.. but i do agree with some off u we should be going hard after lee or boozer james is not comming her…. if we dont get boozer or lee its a very bad thing for more than one reason..

  21. TexasBearsFan July 7, 2010 at 5:24 pm #

Yeah, I guess we should just cry ourselves to sleep every night. Some of us see Derrick Rose as a star in the making and don’t need to quote children’s books to make our point.

Add Lee to this team and J.J. Reddick plus some other throw in’s and we’ll be alright. If LeBron leaves Cleavland we’ll win the Central in a walk-over since the only team worth a damn would be Milwaukee.

I hope the Bulls have not let too many solid complementary players get away while they went for the gold. The Bulls have a budding superstar in Rose and a budding star in Noah, Gibson had a better rookie year than Pippen and could be a potential star. The Bulls need to find low post scoring and outside shooting. There are still some players out there that can fill those roles. I am wondering whether the Bulls will now back out of the Wizzard deal and keep Hinrich? Is it too late for Gar & Pax to retrench and salvage an improved roster from this mess? Some very interesting times are ahead for our Bulls. The Bulls may end up a better team for next season anyway.

RastaBull’s post is the best one on here. Nails the situation down perfectly for what we have to do to be competitive this year. A Boozer and Mathews would fit in well, or Redick if the Jazz don’t let Mathews go. Also, Shannon Brown brings a lot of talent, maybe he’ll be open to signing if the Lakers re-up Fisher. Just one question if anyone has any knowledge about it, is Omer Asik coming over this year and if so, is the guy any good? What about re-signing Brad for the backup spot again?

although it’s a big dissappointment not to land atleast one of the mega stars. I have to agree the bulls aren’t as bad off as one would care to believe. We still can use a bruiser like boozer and definately we can grab a shooter. maybe have to overpay for them, but at least they are some well needed pieces to help D rose and noah. As far as d wade/bosh/lebron? Hey they did what they feel they had to do, but they also are going back to teams with bigger holes than the bulls have and the money to refill those holes are just not there for them. So yes they will be great on at their respective teams, but the results of championships can be a bit pre mature….

As as fan you have to be ready for the let down and so far its been a let down. You can’t make guys come here so, it is what it is gotta move on, now there are a few guys out there that still fit our team, Carlos Boozer, David Lee, hell even Richard Jefferson if you but him at the 2 spot, Mike Miller ect. We still have a shot at being a really good team and with Rose and Tom at the helm we should be fine….Its all good BULLS FANS its ALL GOOD WE ARE GOING TO BE JUST FINE WITHOUT THEM..WE GOT ROSE NUFF SAID.

Derrick Rose is a true star….hes going to put the Bulls on his back…just add David Lee and Ashton Kutcher(Kyle Korver)…ill rather have those 2 other then Boozer and Miller because of health and size issues…then afterwards fill out the roster with some more selfless players…reddick would be great off the bench with a good point guard…we already have taj gibson james johnson and omer asik off the bench…just resign brad miller and we would be a better team

    BoppinBob July 7, 2010 at 6:19 pm #

I have head rumors that the Celtics are going to try to get Brad Miller. Personally, I think the Bulls need him as their 3rd C. Finding someone who is a little more athletic to be the primary backup for Noah. The odds were stacked against most teams as far as landing one of the top FAs this year. While I might be mildly disappointed I do not consider it a tradgety that the Bulls did not land a major FA. It is better in the long run for the development of the team in the long run. I know that we have waited a long time for a championship caliber team, but not as long as the Knicks, Nets, Bucks and a long list of others. I have felt all along that the Bulls should build around Rose. Noah and Gibson are solid steps in that building process. James Johnson needs to show that he can consistently contribute this year. As a result of our vain attempt to entice 2 big name FAs we have now created the need to find 2 quality guards for this season. Now Pax and Gar must earn their money.

am I the only one who fails to understand the “lure” of miami? sure it has nice weather, no tax and what not. but last season they had a top 3 superstar in Wade and the 5th seed vs the celtics and they could’nt sell out any of their playoff games. id be extremely happy with either boozer or lee. even if they are not that great defensively, noah is and im confident gibson can step up and be a great defender off the bench. the only front courts in the east that could match that would require howard or bosh to play out of their minds, and possibly the nets depending on how favors turns out this year.

we need to fill out our roster i say we take a shot at tmac to come off the bench. teams intrest in him seems to be really low but he’s a vet and our new coach should be able to hide his obvious age on D. he’s not a great 3 point shooter but respectable and would be solid in the pick in roll and our new 3rd or 4th option( whoever better in tim offence he or deng).he works out in chicago with grover he could teach deng a few tricks and maybe groom JJ into our SF of the future. at this stage in his career what more could he ask for… a second shot at what he loves to do and a chance to get ring on his naked fingers

We could back out of the deal for Hinrich but we won’t. When Jerry Reinsdorf makes a handshake deal he sticks to it, he doesn’t back out of it..it’s happen to us a couple of times but he won’t do it.

For some that think we’ll lose Rose or Naoh if we don’t do something. Bulls are saying they’ll pay whatever to keep those guys.

Per Sam Smith, the Bulls are gonna work to lock up Noah this year and Rose next year even though they both will be a year away respectively. So we’ll see.

I really hope our Bulls aren’t playing with themselves while waiting for LeBron decision tomorrow, things are gonna start moving fast and the Bulls need to get on the ball now.

We need to move onto Boozer, the guy would be great in Tom’s pick and roll..he’s a good low post scorer and definitely would fill the void, he’s a pretty good shooter from 17 feet..he’s our best choice now.

Boozer is not going to Chicago, Utah doesn’t want to let him go. David Lee will go to either NJ or NY.

    and @ Steve

The “Lure” of Miami is that it’s a beautiful city with beautiful beaches and women. We also have a Hall of Fame coach as President. We have a great owner that is willing to spend as much money as possible to win. Miami also has more money then anyone to build an instant contender. Although i’m not a LeBrick fan Miami can sign him as well right now. 3 superstars in Miami VS 1 in Chicago? hmm let me think… Oh and Steve most of the people in Miami are dealing with money issues since lots of people have forecloser issues. Regaurdless of the fans, Miami has a much better chance to grow. Unlike Chicago that barely got into the playoffs because Bosh got hurt. Chicago has the same fail squad that went 41-41 2 yrs in a row and you people claim to have the best team? LMAO! Give me a break, atleast Miami went 43-39 in 08 and 47-35 in 09 with our fail squad. Come back to reality guy’s and stop making such homer comments. D-Wade is going to move his Mom and 2 kids to South Beach and enjoy the fun in paradise.

Chicago has an ex assistant coaching as of right now. Chicago also has a bad track record when it comes to ownership i.e cheap owner. Aparently D-Rose and Noah are not the superstars you homers brag about. 41-41 hardly seems elite enough to be one superstar away from a championship. Bosh would have to take a paycut to play in Chicago as well but since he has to pay state tax it’s a much bigger paycut then Miami is offering. One more thing, in order to get Bosh in a S&T Chicago would have to trade Noah or Rose or both. Toronto was not interested in Dengs Toxic contract unless you take Hedo back which makes that trade fail.

I know you guy’s may feel that i’m trolling but im just being honest and gave you valid points as to why Miami is a better choice. You homers know in your hearts that i’m right, like it or not…. GO HEAT!!!

Yea we will get rebounds, here is a little stat fact. During the last 4 seasons Boozer ranks 3rd in rebounds per game among all players with 11 only behind D. Howard and M. Camby. Boozer can hit the mid range shot consistently and runs the pick and roll well as he has proven with D. Will. I’m excited on the addition can’t wait for the season to start!

Isn’t it always humorous when some know-nothing heat fan comes on our board to talk shit, but then gets slapped down by facts almost immediately? That’s funny.

“Boozer’s not going to Chicago, blah blah blah”. Then, not an hour later, Boozer’s in Chicago.

Have fun with your two all-stars and a team of scrubs.

honestly i think the bulls are much better off than the heat chicago has the ultimate hustle guy in noah and showed he can get it done in the playoffs along with rose boozer is going to be a great #2 rose can continue to shoot 20+attempts per and deng is meant to be a solid #3 or 4 scorer just wish they hadnt wasted their draft pick
