According to Jim O’Donnell of the Chicago Sun-Times, Kevin McHale is now an official part of the Bulls’ coaching search. According to McHale, anyway.
Said McHale: “We’ve had some just primary discussions and I’ve talked to both Gar and Pax a little bit. So, I mean, we’ll see where it goes from there. As far as Chicago goes, everybody, I think, would like that job. It’s a good young team. They’ve got [Derrick] Rose, they’ve got other good young players, they have free agency, full money under the [salary] cap. I think there’s a lot of positives there. But again, I guess that’s just going to be a wait-and-see thing. I think they’re going to interview a lot of people and it’ll be up to Pax and Gar Forman to make that decision.”
As O’Donnell points out, neither Paxson nor Forman have confirmed or denied any names. So make of this what you will. Personally, I can’t imagine the Bulls hiring McHale, not if they’re looking for a playoff savvy head coach.
McHale would be another in the long line of candidates that make me long for Vinny.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Why waste his time, just to look like your doing something?
McHale would be a good choice to coach the bulls…. if bulls don’t wanna sign any big name FAs and piss Chicago off at the same time.
On second thought,
….Doesn’t McHale have a big favor coming back his way from Danny Ainge and the Celtics organization? 😉
McHale did a good, very good job coaching his team when he as asked to take over by the owner. His biggest liability is uncertainty over his commitment to the NBA grind.
I’m not advocating he coach the Bulls but I’d take him over Eddie Jordan.
I don’t see a problem with McHale. The guy knows basketball, and could probably teach Noah, Taj, and Johnson how to use some old school footwork – and how to be a dirty bruiser (Miller has shown them the basics). He is about Team basketball and has shown some success with a weak roster. The coaching options seem really thin, and Del Negro seemed to have qualities that match or are close to some of the current candidates. As long as we don’t get Frank.

You got that right! Maybe they could set up a lopsided trade to get Garnett back to McHale.
Once again, hopefully the Bulls are aslo interview Byron Scott as well. To me he is the prefect coach for this young Bulls team.
I personnally believe that there are no experienced coaches available that will lead the Bulls to the promised land. They are all retreads. There are three or four top assistants available that deserve consideration. It seems that those assistants are being given that consideration. I would also give Mike Brown some consderaion, he accomplished some very good things with a very thin roster.
That may be true boppinbob but, last time I check when Mike Brown was the Cavs head coach, he was not the main guy who was running this team, it was mostly Lebron James. Not only that he had a better roster then the Bulls with: Lebron, Jamison, Ilgauskas, Hickson, O’Neal, Parker, Varejao & William. So I wouldn’t rank Mike Brown that high as a head coach compare to Rick Adelman or Byron Scott who had a similar team like the Bulls in the past.
