James Johnson: The Highlights

Category: Highlights — Tags: , , – Matt McHale @ 10:18 am

Here’s a fun little highlight video of James Johnson, whom the Bulls selected with the 16th pick in last week’s NBA draft. I find his ability to take opponents off the dribble and his variety of left-handed finishes to be particularly impressive. However, I am mildly concerned that his low post repertoire seemingly consists of only dunks and power moves. Doesn’t anybody teach the jump hook anymore? An up-and-under, maybe?

  1. Meh. We’ll see what he can do. For now, I’m a little underwhelmed with this guy. Let’s hope weight doesn’t become an issue. It looks like it might be. Also, he doesn’t dunk very much in traffic. 1/2 of this highlight reel is him dunking on a break or a blown defensive assignment, right at the rim. Nothing to indicate that he can operate in the 1/2 court with a defender all up in his shorts.

Thanks for the clip- I hadn’t even HEARD of this guy before he was drafted.

Does anyone else feel like this draft was the softest EVER? Yawn. Wake me up when somebody makes a decision on Gordon/Hinrich.

  2. A larger Tyrus Thomas with less ability to block and a better shot?

  3. We have our LeBron James. This guy can get any shot he wants. People dogging this pick now will turn into full fledge groupies. Believe that

  5. great pick by the Bulls, James Johnson is a beast!! He has A Lebron James and Ron Artest body, with the scoring ablity of Caron Butler or Richard Jefferson. Stop comparing him with Tyrus Thomas he is a 3 that can play the 4!! He can take you inside and out give him some minutes and a couple of years, and you guys will see why the Bulls Drafted him. Plus I hope they trade Deng so he can get the minutes, over a over rated over paid Deng!!!!!!

  6. If he trims down to 245-250lbs, I will be really excited about him. He seems like a poor man’s Lebron James. Long as he got good footwork, chicago fans should e excited for the pick.

  7. AK Dave, you probably haven’t ever heard of him because you don’t watch College basketball…. at all. He was being looked at from going 9th to 18th… And how is weight looking like a problem? He takes his weight training very seriously and was working on getting bigger so he could play the 4 at Wake Forest.

I think he’s more of a younger Paul Pierce IMO
