If you’ve been watching the Bulls play lately, then you’ve probably noticed that Derrick Rose has been knocking down a lot of open jumpers. Trust me, it’s no mirage. Check out his NBA Hot Spots chart from the last 10 games:
Dig it: Derrick’s been hitting at a 55 percent clip (31-for-56) from that midrange zone in his last 10 games. Now check out his last five:
That’s 21-for-32…a 65.6 percent rate of accuracy! It’s amazing that his shot has improved this drastically over the course of his rookie season. It looks like Derrick’s defenders won’t be able to keep going under screens and daring him to shoot the ball. Unless they want their teams to lose. If he develops a three-point shot, he’ll be unstoppable.

If Derrick does develops a 3-pt shot, he will be an All-Star next year. I can see him putting up Dwayne Wade’s numbers in a year or two.

Michael Redd was a suspect jumpshooter when he entered the NBA. At Ohio State he was a slasher and finisher who used quickness and hops to overpower the competition. He had to convert to a jumpshooter in order to even make a team in the NBA, and he developed into one of the better shooters in the league.
It CAN be done, as long as he doesn’t turn into a prima donna next year.

With Derrick’s ability to get to the bucket, the thought of defenders trying to fight over screens to get a hand in his face is just scary when you think about how driving lanes will open up.
All he needs now is a great big man who can run the pick and roll…

Loop — I don’t see why not. The mechanics on his jumpe look solid, and he’s shown the ability to improve. I’m done doubting this kid until he give me reason to question him.

to Loop-
I live in Columbus and loved watching that OSU Final Four team led by Michael Redd a decade ago. He was ALWAYS a shooter first. Scoonie Penn was the man who slashed for the drive and kick to Redd for 3. Him and Rose are not comparable in the slightest. The knock on Redd has always been that he takes too many jumpers and never developed his slashing ability.
But, Rose is certainly looking promising. Who cares about the 3, if he can make that 18 footer then he will be fine. I just want to see him start getting some more calls as he gets experience. He should be getting to the FT line much more often than he does. That’s his 3pt shot folks. I just hope to see him getting to the line 7-10 times a game like Wade does.
