Omer Asik: Done for the season

Category: injuries — Matt McHale @ 7:37 pm

More bad news.

Just what Bulls fans needed right now.

ESPNChicago’s Nick Friedell writes:

Chicago Bulls center Omer Asik is done for the rest of the season because of a fractured left fibula that he suffered in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals.

An MRI and CT scan before Game 4 on Tuesday confirmed the diagnosis, but Asik still played two minutes in the Miami Heat’s 101-93 victory. The Heat will try to eliminate the Bulls in Game 5 on Thursday.

A release from the Bulls said Asik “attempted to play in Game 4, but had recurrent discomfort and a loss of function.”

The injury will not require surgery.

I’m not sure why the Bulls would let Asik try to play on a fractured fibula. It doesn’t seem like a very good idea to me. But what do I know? At any rate, we won’t see Asik again until next season.

Does that mean we’ll see Kurt Thomas? Or just more Taj Gibson? I guess we’ll find out.

  1. Thibs HAS to activate Scalabrine. The Madhouse will earn its name the second he steps onto the floor.

Give the people what they want!

  3. remember that post last year about the bulls medical staff? i think it’s time to bring out that one again. another curious decision by our medical staff.

oh and by the way, asik was -9 in his 2 minutes last night, and he played like he had a broken leg. horrible decision to try and play him, which might have ended up costing us the season.

  4. I was wondering whatever happened to Sclabrine, my memory is totally refreshed about him, I had never even noticed has not been playing as of late for some reason.
