From ESPNChicago.com: “[Gordon] was prepared to sign last year at the end, but after he turned down our offer, we thought about it and thought about it and decided it was in our best interest just to go one year with Ben,” Reinsdorf said. “We informed him of that, at which time his agent came back and said, ‘We’ll take your prior offer.’ We said it was too late. It’s off the table. We’ll have decisions to make at the draft. It depends on who we take, whether we trade our picks or we trade other players. Where we’re going with Ben can’t be decided until after July 1.”
That’s not quite the “re-signing Gordon is a priority” message that Gar Forman delievered last week. It’s more of a “wait and see” statement, which seems reasonable. In case you forgot, that offer from last year that Reinsdorf alluded to was worth $58 million over six years.
Simple solution, sign and trade Gordon to the Wizards for the #5 pick and Etan Thomas’s expiring contract.
Draft DeMar DeRozen to replace Gordon, start
Salmons, keep Hinrich. and we are still under the luxury tax.
In 2 years Derozen is ready to start next to Rose, and we bag one of the 2010 free agents, either by trade or free agency. Start competing for championships.
Reinsdorf is dropping the ball once again. If you read my post on the Gar Forman statement, I believe he made a great chess move.
We need the rest of the league to believe we are in love with Ben Gordon. This increases his value. After the postseason Ben had everyone needs him. Spurs, Detroit, Cleveland and any other team that struggles to score points.
Reinsdorf should let the guys he hired do their job.
The wait and see game has been very succesful the past offseasons. We could have the LAkers team right now. We had Gasol and Kobe but, no we’ll wait and see how these guys develope.
