It’s official: Derrick Rose is an All-Star

As reported on the Yahoo! Sports NBA blog Ball Don’t Lie: “Point guards Deron Williams of Utah, Chicago’s Derrick Rose and Boston’s Rajon Rondo will make their All-Star Game debuts next month in Dallas, sources said Thursday. Williams, Rondo and Rose top the list of reserves chosen by the league’s coaches to participate in the Feb. 14 game at Cowboys Stadium. … Besides Rondo and Rose, the East roster includes Boston’s Paul Pierce, Toronto’s Chris Bosh, Charlotte’s Gerald Wallace and Atlanta’s Joe Johnson and Al Horford.”

A very well-deserved honor for Rose, who is Chicago’s first All-Star since Michael Jordan. Too bad Joakim Noah couldn’t join him on the team.

Very well deserved indeed. Good to see the coaches know what they are doing as opposed to the fans.

hey juan, how d-rose going to be all-star mvp if he’s not starting. I like D-Rose in the all-star game but I wish he would have gotten more of a leading role seeing the Chicago Bulls have not had an allstar since M.J.

That will come in time Jay. I don’t know many 2nd year All-Star starters. I bet in another year or two he’ll get it with his main fight being with Rondo.

Also, the time’s on this blog are really messed up. Says I’m posting at 10:00pm. :-/

I’d be interested to know how long it took other former #1 picks to become an all star. Mr. McHale please begin whipping your research team….of monkeys!

First of many to come for DRose. All Star game can be a big boost to a team as well. Remember when Craig Hodges dominated the 3 point contest in 1991? Many players on the bulls that year felt it gave the team a lot of confidence and momentum heading into the second half of the season

Very proud of Rose. He has saved VDN job’s for this season and has the Bulls poised to be the 5th seed in the East. Well deserved!

Could Derrick Rose Allstar spot be enough motivation for his team to win a championship this year? Only time will tell!

I’m on the same page as thirdsaint- whats up with the time when you submit a comment?

Anyway, to answer the question about the #1 picks making the All-Star team- it seems to me that it is either hit or miss (shoot, when we had Joe Smith last year, we had two former #1 picks on the roster). Take a look at it- you have LeBron James and Dwight Howard, guys who are a given to make the team each year. Then there’s the guys who get injured and don’t make it- Greg Oden and Blake Griffin. Then there’s the duds- players that never live up to their hype/potential, much less become All-Stars- Joe Smith, Michael Olowokandi, Kwame Brown, Andrea Bargnani.

    This lists ’em all:

VDN saved his own job by stressing defense. As long as the Bulls continue to play tough team defense they will have a chance to win. Defense was the backbone of the double three-peat even with Michael. Defense is the cornerstone of a championship team especially in basketball.
