Here’s some exciting news for the Bulls (and scary-bad news for their opponents) — Derrick Rose has been working hard this summer on improving his jump shot:
“About three weeks after the Bulls were eliminated by Boston, Rose was in Santa Monica, Calif., working on his jumper, conditioning and other aspects of his game with trainer Rob McClanahan. McClanahan said Rose had problems with consistency because he often shot flat with his palm on the ball. Not enough lift on his shot left too many of them hitting the front of the rim. McClanahan challenged Rose to shoot for the back of the rim. When Rose missed, McClanahan was quick to remind him. ‘No short shots,’ he’d say. Or, ‘finish the shot.’ … Rose takes about 500 jumpers six days a week when he and McClanahan are in the gym with other players like Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook. When they’re alone, that number doubles.”
Rose, who was a sickly 16-for-72 from downtown last season, is also trying to add a three-point shot to his arsenal. If this kid can become an outside shooting threat in addition to his lightning strikes into the paint, he’ll be unstoppable. Which would be totally cool with me.
Best Bulls news I’ve heard all summer.
I think D-Rose will improve his game a lot this season and score more pts with more ast because they do not have BG, that ball hugs the basketball. I am more worried about how Deng & Tyrus Thomas will perform this season. I just hope that they can step-up their game and help us win more games then last year.
Deng has been working on his game all summer and has added considerable strength this off-season. Thomas is also hitting the gym hard too. I see Rose taking another major step forward. I wouldn’t be suprised if he averages between 20-25ppg next season to lead the bulls.
Oh Rocky, I hope not!!! You show me a point guard averaging that many points, and I will show you a basketball team that is unhealthy.
That is not to say that he couldn’t score that many points every night. It’s just that a basketball team that is firing on all cylinders should be unpredictable. Right now the Bulls have at least 5 guys (not counting the rookies) that I trust with taking the shot. …ANY SHOT that they deem acceptable. I would prefer D-Rose to break down the defense and drive maybe 5 to 7 times a quarter, and run the offense the rest of the time. That way the opponent must be wary of him, but cannot key in on him.
I was one of the reasons that I so enjoyed Scott Skiles’ tenure with the Bulls. His play calling was original and you never knew who was taking the shot.
our young Rose is trying to blossom before our eyes, De Rose is already scary good and scary young, he clearly has things to work on his shooting period! and finishing games, all the talent is already and apparently he has a strong work ethic which is good for a guy his age, He going to be greate i can’t say how greate but greate!
I don’t know about you guys but I can’t wait until the season begins… I can’t wait to see Derrick Rose and the Bulls play!!!!!
i have been a fan since 88 and im ready for the season now like never before, d rose was just what we needed. i think we should keep kirk and put him at 2, then again we could put salmons there if we trade kirk. i think a full season with miller will help us in the paint and noah should learn from him too. all i want joakim to do is be energetic like he was for my gators, my fav nba team drafts a player from my fav college bball team, i gotta say i was feelin grrrreat.
i cant wait until we play the pistons. can we get some money back from ben wallace..he owes us. im just crossing my fingers hoping that our front office dont do nothing stupid like always. go bullies
I think D-Rose is going be an All-Star player this season coming up. But a agree with Garcia again, I am also worry about Deng and Thomas performance, I just hope that Deng can play at that high level he had in 05-06 and I hope that Tyrus has one of his best years as a Bull.
You know i wanted a trade to happen so bad this summer for bosh or amare. But i think the forwards we got, this will be a good year for the bulls fanz.Having salmons at the 2 is a good defense of move.We lost a lot of games having gordan there.I think we will score a little more this year and play better defense. that will get us another 10-12 wins.Cant wait till this season.GO BULLS
Rose has been challenged to IMPROVE, but the captains never improve. Deng is coming off an injury – what will you REALLY expect from him? Kirk hasn’t been Kirk since before that contract.
Rose better work on that shot because lucky number 7 will not longer be there to hit clutch shots anymore. And WHO do the Bulls turn to??? Not the highest paid players and captains, but the Rose. Rose’s biggest deficiency was his DEFENSE, which was worse than Gordon’s but you can’t tell the Hymlich loving Bulls fans that.
Who is helping Rose improve his defense? Rondo averaged a triple double against us in the playoffs. We can’t have that and expect to go anywhere
I think that D-Rose is ready to shift that gear to become an all-star player this year. Now that BG is gone, he will have the ball more in this hands, scoring more points, with more ast and become a better defender. Plus, Salmons, Hinrich, Pargo and Hunter will help him improve on this defense. Anywayz D-Rose has shown signs that he is starting to improve on his defense when he blocked Rondo jump shot in the playoffs with sum steals.
