Per the NBA draft combine measurements, Jimmy Butler not only has elite athleticism, but in fact has the most elite athleticism for a starting shooting guard if one were to compare height, vertical, speed and bench press in which Butler easily outranks all other starting shooting guards. In fact his elite athleticism is likely what has allowed him to skate by in years past with the exception of his now astounding basketball evolution. See for yourself: http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-draft-measurements/

He already has the ability to drive to the basket and get the foul calls (a great skill – Wade-esque, dare I say) and can guard 3 positions well or exceptionally well. His shot and decision making will improve with time, health and most importantly, experience. He probably would be showing more improvement if Derrick and Luol were still playing for the Bulls this year. He is just beginning to work on being an integral part of the offense and I think he has a chance to become a terrific all-around player. Sky’s the limit if his body doesn’t break down.

It should be obvious to anyone paying the slightest attention that the turf toe, subsequently compounded by other issues, greatly impacted Butler’s jumping, cutting and overall mobility.

Feel free to look at his shooting stats prior to the TT injury:

30/69 FG (43.5%) 10/26 3PT (38.5%)

Great dissection of Butler’s game though.
