I honestly thought the Bulls would trade Boozer this summer, some bench pieces, and a draft pick to L.A. for Gasol and Young so that L.A. could go after Love. That move would have plugged 3 holes for the Bulls (replacing Boozer, backing up Noah, and an athletic shooting guard); but getting Smith sheds a new light. Gasol and Young would be cheaper than Love, but Smith is cheaper than Gasol and Young, which still offers great options. Now you can dump Boozer’s expiring contract for a shooter or whatever the need may be. An expiring contract on an aging PF who can give you 15/10 is worth more than a lot of people realize. But maybe, the Bulls might still do that trade and throw in Smith to help the Lakers get some “Love!” Either way it works out is a plus for the Bulls, but I just see them sticking with what they have and making the investors happy while “having more than enough to win!” Maybe it’s not so clear after all…
